The Brainlaverse Art Museum in the classroom: how to transform an art history lesson

Digital platforms are already an integral part of the classroom. But what happens when we take it a step further? Brainlaverse, our educational and cultural metaverse, offers exactly that: a new dimension for artistic learning.

One of its most unique spaces is the Art Museum, where students do not simply view reproductions of masterpieces from the outside, but instead step inside their visual space and construct their own interpretation.

Case study: a lesson within The Garden of Earthly Delights

In an activity called ‘Inside the Painting’, students enter the Art Museum and position themselves within Hieronymus Bosch’s triptych. They explore the environment independently, approach groups of figures, identify compositional axes and perceive the relative scale between elements – something no projection can replicate.

After the exploration, the group shares their findings. The teacher introduces the historical context and Flemish iconography, and the discussion is based on each student’s direct experience, not on an imposed interpretation. Interactive questionnaires integrated into the metaverse conclude the session and enable the assessment of comprehension and reasoning skills.

Students can interactively explore and study the details of this famous work, discovering its symbolism and composition.

The educational value of the Art Museum

  1. Active learning:

Immersive exploration transforms passive observation into an experience of personal interpretation.

  2. A more in-depth analysis:

Scale, composition and visual hierarchy are perceived in a way that a flat image cannot convey.

  3. Greater student engagement:

The freedom to explore the material sparks curiosity and leads to more meaningful discussions.

  4. Key skills:

Critical thinking, reasoning and digital literacy, all covered in a single session.

The Art Museum is just one of Brainlaverse’s educational spaces. In future articles, we will explore how other museums are being transformed into immersive learning experiences.
