Beyond the Classroom: Learning Together in the Educational Metaverse
From 8 to 11 September, UNESCO’s Digital Learning Week 2026 brings together educators, researchers and technology leaders to explore the transformation of education in the age of artificial intelligence. This year’s discussions focus on how technology can support education while keeping learning ethical, inclusive and centred on people.
At Brainlab Fira, we believe digital transformation should go beyond placing traditional lessons on a screen. Technology can turn learning into an experience—one that students can explore, share and remember.
Brainlaverse: a virtual world built for learning
Brainlaverse is an educational metaverse where culture, art, history and knowledge become interactive experiences.
Instead of only reading about a historical place or studying an artwork in a textbook, students can enter virtual environments, examine their details and learn through exploration.
Our new educational features also allow teachers to bring their own classes into the metaverse. Through the teacher dashboard, educators can create private virtual classes, design challenges and examinations, add notes and learning materials, monitor students’ progress and assign grades directly through the platform.
This transforms Brainlaverse from a world students can visit into a space where teachers can design and manage complete learning experiences.

Learning through action
Students are accustomed to interacting with digital worlds. They explore, collaborate, overcome obstacles and learn the rules of new environments through experimentation. Brainlaverse applies these familiar dynamics to educational and cultural content.
Challenges encourage students to pay attention to their surroundings. Missions transform information into objectives. Exploration allows each learner to advance at their own pace, while virtual classes provide a shared space where the entire group can learn together.
This approach can make complex or distant subjects feel more immediate. History is no longer presented only as something that happened in the past. Art is no longer limited to an image inside a textbook. Culture becomes a place students can enter, experience and understand.
Technology with an educational purpose
Digital transformation in education should not be measured only by the number of devices, platforms or technologies introduced into the classroom. The most important question is whether these tools improve the learning experience.
Do they make knowledge more accessible? Do they encourage curiosity and critical thinking? Do they help teachers create better activities? Do they allow students to participate instead of simply observe?
Brainlaverse has been developed with these questions in mind. Its purpose is not to use the metaverse simply because it is new, but to explore what immersive technology can contribute when it is designed around education, culture and the needs of teachers and students.
The teacher remains at the centre of the educational process, deciding what students learn, how activities are structured and how their progress is assessed. The virtual environment becomes another tool through which educators can guide discovery and create memorable learning experiences.
Reimagining the classroom
UNESCO’s Digital Learning Week invites the international education community to reflect on the opportunities and challenges created by digital transformation. It also reminds us that the future of education must remain centred on people.
